About Claudia

Multidisciplinary movement artist, performer, facilitator and coach with extensive professional experience in theatre, performance, dance, physical theatre, voice and embodied practice. My work combines movement, physical presence, improvisation, performance and artistic facilitation, with many years of experience teaching and working with groups and individuals. My approach is strongly embodied and inspired by 5Rhythms, free movement, Gaga, physical theatre, Butoh, Flamenco and other body-based approaches.

I work with voice, breath, movement, imagination, improvisation, character and physical presence as interconnected tools for artistic expression and communication.

Extensive experience working internationally and in English-language productions and collaborations.

Claudia studied performative arts at Rostock University of Music and Theatre, as well as at Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD). She works as an actress and playwright, loves to travel, and never tires of seeking out new vantage points. Having grown up in several spaces and countries, Claudia feels at home in many places. She is drawn to work that transcends or dissolves boundaries—work that embraces a multitude of languages on stage. She seeks a form of theater that engages the entire body—moving both the artist and the audience, compelling them to rise from their seats. She strives for theater that fosters connection and unleashes energy, leaving people feeling, in the end, a little more whole—or at least, a step closer to wholeness. Simple as that.

Claudia has collaborated with Teatr Brama Poland, Ashtar Theatre Ramallah, Filmorchester Babelsberg, Stage Theatre Hamburg, TfN, Ensemble Persona, Jerusalem Opera, Compagnie de Commedie Rostock, Staatstheater Schwerin, Neuköllner Oper Berlin, Theater im Delphi Berlin, Theaterhaus Mitte Berlin, Theatersommer Ludwigsburg, Theater für die Jugend Burghausen, DasVinzenz (Munich), Theater Vorpommern, Opernale MV, among many others. She is a laureate of various international competitions, such as the Lotte Lenya Competition in New York. In 2022, her original play "ALICE IM ALL" ("Alice in Space") won first prize at the Freisprung Theater Festival in Rostock. Claudia is also a playwright; her works have received funding, awards, and productions across Germany.

1ST PLACE

AT 2022 FREISPRUNG FESTIVAL FOR THEATER

Claudia’s play *ALICE IN SPACE* (*ALICE IM ALL*) won 1st place at the 2022 Freisprung Festival!

The jury wrote the following about the piece:
"As an audience, we were captivated and carried along, witnessing the nave of the church transform into a spaceship. We were right there on this immense, highly emotional journey. The imposing sound of the organ drew us out into the cosmos, while Alice’s (Claudia Roick) virtuoso performance immersed us in a multitude of deeply emotional spaces—exploring themes of sensitivity and spirituality, longing and loneliness, the act of searching and the presence of hope, disappointment, fear, and so much more. Language and music intertwined as perfectly as rhythm and fugue. The text—masterfully woven together from both *Alice* stories—allowed us to shift between intimate and expansive spaces, to lose ourselves in imagery, and to constantly conjure new visions within our own minds. The power and euphoria of the performance shied away from no question, no abyss.
We were drawn into something—but where was, and is, Alice truly? In outer space, or inside her own mind? That interpretation is left entirely to the viewer.
This is a piece one would love to see the artists perform again in 20 years’ time!"
